In conjunction with the creation of the Ethics Review Committee, upon which I sit, I have added a new Ethics page. It is intended for members of the Ethics Review Committee, as well as for interested citizens. It will include links to municipal ethics information. Please feel free to tell me about links you would like to be added.
The first link is to my draft North Haven Code of Ethics, adapted for our town from the Model Code I wrote for the City Ethics website, which was handed out to Ethics Review Committee members, and from the Model Connecticut Municipal Ethics Code I wrote for Connecticut Common Cause, a nonpartisan, good government organization (this year I was elected to its board). This draft code contains an introduction, which was not included in the materials sent to the Ethics Review Committee. This draft, like the Model Code, is intended to be a starting point for discussion, since no other ethics code in Connecticut contains the range of provisions. It also features language that is easier to understand than other codes, an important consideration since a code is meant to provide guidelines to officials and employees without a legal background.
I also invite people to visit my municipal ethics blog, which has short articles on a wide range of topics relating to local government ethics.
I will soon add links to other Connecticut municipal codes of ethics, and relevant websites.
